Tortuga island Costa Rica
Just 45 minutes from Jaco, there are two islands that make up 120 acres, surrounded by crystal clear waters that abound with marine life for which they are recognized to enjoy scuba diving, snorkeling and other water activities.
The island of Alcatraz is the smallest and largest of Tolinga, meaning turtle in the indigenous language Huetar, the first inhabitants of the central Pacific.
These islands are state owned and leased to the Costa Rican family of Mario Cubero Fernandez, who was commissioned for 30 years to protect the islands, reforestation with native species that had disappeared there and prohibited hunting.
On the island protected as a reserve by the laws of Costa Rica, a shelter for rescued animals had been placed in which they work to rehabilitate for the possible readmission in the nature.
